Elementary Activities:

Intermediate Choir:
Choir is offered as a year long electives class to all 7th and 8th grade students. Choir members build on fundamentals of vocal technique, music notation, sight singing, and ensemble singing. Students will study a variety of musical styles reflecting advanced literature. There are required performances scheduled throughout the year.

Band
Walcott Intermediate School offers a number of opportunities for students to participate in music. The band program has a 7th / 8th grade band, plus a wide range of opportunities for enrichment and extension. Students are eligible to join Walcott's band when the student enters fifth grade. Walcott's band is available to students in grades 5-8.
7th and 8th Grade Band
This course is a more advanced continuation of the sixth grade band experience with the goal of developing even higher level musical skills. The class meets daily with an additional individual lesson for each student once a week. Musical objectives include multiple performances in a concert band environment; a solo festival experience; and the opportunity to audition for Honor Bands. Attendance at all performances is a requirement of the course.
Enrichment and Extension Opportunities
In addition to having a full class period rehearsal every day for all students, there are several opportunities for students to further their musical experience.
